New Jersey Turnpike Authority Announces Construction of Exit 48 and the Donald J. Trump Travel Plaza
Historic Highway Expansion Will Create Turnpike's Newest Roadside Destination
Woodbridge, N.J. — The New Jersey Turnpike Authority today announced plans to construct Exit 48, a new extension of the New Jersey Turnpike that will become the future home of the Donald J. Trump Travel Plaza.
Although the New Jersey Turnpike has operated for more than 70 years with its highest numbered exit designated as Exit 18, Authority officials concluded that the extraordinary significance of the Donald J. Trump Travel Plaza warranted extending the Turnpike all the way to Exit 48.
Currently spanning approximately 148 miles, including its mainline and officially designated extensions, the New Jersey Turnpike system will increase to more than 300 miles upon completion of the new northern extension. The expansion will continue beyond the Turnpike's current northern terminus, extending through northern New Jersey and into New York to accommodate the new travel plaza.
Authority engineers described the project as "an appropriate infrastructure investment recognizing one of America's newest roadside destinations." Officials further noted that the Donald J. Trump Travel Plaza is expected to become one of the most visited and photographed travel centers in the United States, welcoming millions of motorists each year.
The plaza will feature fuel, dining, refreshments, traveler services, electric vehicle charging, ample parking, and official commemorative merchandise celebrating one of America's newest landmarks.
